The story of my first PC Gaming Build
This page will be updated as parts come in and/or purchased.
This has been a long awaited experience and amongst my peers consider a little late to the game. Excuse the pun.
I decided to take this process slow, as am limited on budget, and occurs to me that I will would not be able do this without making some form of commitment to it. As I make progress I will post pictures of each part as well as a response.
Brief Design Concept Description:
The PC will be for performance gaming, video editing, and game development, including major components from MSI and Nvidia. The color scheme will mainly be black and red, Husker red, to show my support and my gratitude for being part of such great university, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (www.unl.edu).
Here is brief list of the parts selected from PCPartPicker. (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gsssVY)
PC Build
The reasoning behind my choices starting by most expensive to least expensive:
The video card
GEFORCE GTX 1060 GAMING X 6G
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Video Card
Approximate Cost: $429.99 on Amazon
The reason for this choice was that as much as it is grand to attempt to purchase something new such as GeForce GTX 1080, which seemingly is the flagship card for Nivida during this time. Justification being that the 1060 is still a high-end card. For some odd reason, the priced has been removed from the part list, I will hopefully have some details into this, though it might be discounted considering the setup am using.
The 1060 seemingly seems barebones for this type of machine, as most laptops come with the 10 series of laptops, the 1070; this would be more valid for long term use and higher graphic games.
The CPU
Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
Approximate Cost: $337.12 on Amazon
This is K series version, which allows for easy overclocking with a significantly higher clock speed. Favoring the CPU because this computer will be not be used solely for gaming, so a reliance on the GPU has been not the main focus, as the computer will potential do photo, video, and development work.
The Motherboard
MSI Z170A GAMING M5 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Approximate Cost: $170.22 on Amazon
This card was chosen due the aesthetic and solely by the brand name. Often times the appeal of a known brand is comfortable, much like in the movie Tommy Boy, where one of the characters, feels comfortable with his purchased because the box is marked guaranteed. Now this does not have a guarantee marked on the box, though MSI is also know for gaming and video cards, which somehow helps interlope the two, as often times hardware brands where often built with other parts in mind, and lessens the stress of dealing with issues that can occur with too different brands attempting to work together.
The Case
Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case
Approximate Cost: $109.00 on Newegg
This was simply a newbie mistake, where previously the a Mini case was chosen, however the video card measurements did not quite match the size of the of case and could potential block other slots.
The Memory
Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
Approximate Cost: $74.99 on Newegg
The Storage
SK hynix SL308 250GB 2.5″ Solid State Drive
Approximate Cost: 64.99 on SuperBiiz
Corsair Neutron XTi 240GB 2.5″ Solid State Drive
Approximate Cost: $99.99
Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 2TB 3.5″ 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Approximate Cost: 51.90 on Amazon
The CPU Cooler
be quiet! Dark Rock 3 67.8 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler
Approximate Cost: $54.50 on Newegg
The realization of how much a loud computer can be disruptive and annoying is not always obvious, and mostly done on this build for others sake. Using laptop fans that placed under a laptop are plainly inefficient when it comes to managing noise, and something about silent mechanical machine is a bit futuristic and pleasing.
The Power Supply
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Approximate Cost: $84.99 on Newegg
CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W 80 PLUS BRONZE Active PFC ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply
Approximate Cost: $49.99 – Mail-in Rebate ($20.00) = $29.99 (Purchased)
This was purchased because a more logical familiarity with the brand name, which included a black Friday deal. This included a mail-in rebate for $20.00, bringing the final price done to $29.99.
